Building Permits: Public needs to be aware that building permits are needed before they begin repair work. Demolition work may begin but do not start repairs until you have your permit. The Building & Zoning Department must review to determine if the home has sustained substantial damage. This is a requirement of FEMA for the cities and counties to be eligible for Flood Insurance. Flood Buy-Outs: Contact Ben Kohout, Community Development & Zoning, (319) 352-4252, for information on Waverly’s Flood Buy-Out program for flood damaged homes. For homes outside of Waverly, contact the Bremer County Emergency Management at (319) 352-0133. Deadline to apply for both programs is July 15th.
