- Federal Assistance for Basic Needs Only. Even if you have already called FEMA, check the status of your report and assure it is complete. An incomplete report can delay assistance by several weeks or result in a “Assistance Denied” letter.
- FEMA Denial Letters Can Be Appealed
- Storm-impacted residents who receive a FEMA Ineligibility/Benefits Denied letter are encouraged to contact FEMA. FEMA will explain the cause of the denial of benefits and assist with the appeal process if applicable. A denial letter may mean:
- More information is needed about insurance, damage, or the applicant.
- Verification is needed about the property ownership or occupancy.
- The identity of the applicant has not been verified.

- Information is available regarding flood clean-up and mitigation efforts. Specifically, information is available to assist with mold issues, relocation/elevation of appliances, and other possible efforts to minimize future flooding threats.
