The City of Waverly has enlisted the Center for Community Engagement at Wartburg College to act as the clearinghouse for emergency needs that have arisen following the devastating flooding of the past week. The CCE is being assisted with these activities by the Waverly-Shell Rock United Way.
The CCE will have primary responsibility for collecting information about community needs in regard to clean-up and shelter and matching those needs with volunteers and available housing.
As the clearinghouse, the CCE will receive requests for assistance, while soliciting volunteers and then making the appropriate matches whenever possible.
In addition, the CCE also will receive residents’ requests for short-term housing. Residents and community organizations able to offer short-term housing are urged to contact the CCE so that arrangements can be made to assist those displaced by the flood.
The CCE can be contacted at 352-8701. It will be open between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.
